Lights Out
The brief changed every morning. The deadline never did.
A daily graphics room built to move at the speed of the joke.
- My role
- On-Air Graphic Designer / Motion Designer
- Team
- Burt Rutherford + Michael Adames
- Daily clock
- Brief 10:30 / tape 3:00
Across 107 episodes, Michael Adames and I were the show's entire graphics department. Together, we turned the launch identity into the working world of a daily show. Every piece on this page is work I personally created.
I created recurring comedy bits, segment intros, Photoshop composites, screen graphics and same-day VFX, often from first brief to air in under five hours. If David had to stop laughing before he could start the bit, I knew the graphic had worked.
Recurring bit
One new family. Every day.
For each Awkward Family Photo, I chose the premise, sourced the portrait and matching images of David and the panelists, then hand-blended four faces in one to two hours. More than eighty finished images turned one format into a daily authored system.
- My role
- Photo selection / image sourcing / Photoshop compositing
- Scale
- More than 80 original composites / one new family per show day
Favorite build / Like Hunters
The joke was that it kept going.
A one-line prompt, “David takes a mountaintop selfie and falls,” became a 25-second action epic in one afternoon. False endings, a battered return, an eagle attack and one final distant fall made the graphic part of the comedy.
- My role
- Concept expansion / graphic design / typography / animation / VFX / compositing
- Clock
- 25-second build / one afternoon
Same-day VFX / 9-1-1: Lone Star
Green screen at noon. On fire by three.
Fourteen shots moved from green screen to a burning-building scene before taping: keying, fire, smoke, embers, emergency-light spill, a custom camera overlay, color and grain.
- My role
- Keying / compositing / fire + smoke / particles / camera graphics / color
- Clock
- 14 VFX shots / same-day turnaround

Typography / Segment Titles
The bit started before David said a word.
Recurring bits needed their own joke before David said a word.
- My role
- Segment identity / title design / typography / motion design
- Purpose
- Set the joke before the host’s first line
